No-frills Mexican joint with amazing Al pastor tacos!! Here you'll find little seating (just two small counters) but big flavor! Definitely try something with the made-in-house Tortillas! Make sure you use the restroom before coming here there are no bathrooms. I would not recommend eating in if you are a wheelchair user. It's very tight but takeaway is probably manageable. Our go-to Mexican restaurant (downtown). I would have given 5 stars but they seem to not have some of the variety they used to have. I loved the tortas especially the one floating in a spicy clear broth. Also a gorgeous and tasty vegetarian dish. See photos. There is a lot of good competition for Mexican food but we still come here the most.

Best mexican food in town. Owner really cares about his staff and shows it when possible and reciprocated. Ordinary people trying to make a buck working there.

Cute little corner place. Tacos are tasty and full sized, no tiny street tacos. Three is a meal.

Two words ! Birria Tacos !! This place has some of the best authentic Mexican food I've ever had ( and I've lived all over). The flavor packed in their food makes you wanna just do a happy dance in your chair. My husband LOVES their refried beans , and he NEVER ORDERS them anywhere else . To the point now he just get a full side of beans to himself lol Chef's kiss

Been wanting to go to Maize for a year, but I am usually on campus on Sundays. They are closed on Sundays. :( My daughter tried it for the first time on Quad Day. Their food truck was on the quad. She really enjoyed her carne asada burrito. We went to the Green St location on Saturday. It's carry out since the space inside is really small. They have a couple of tables outside. They are enforcing mask rules and limit the # of people inside. Be respectful of their wishes. They make their own tortillas!! I love freshly made tortillas! I ordered 3 carne asada americano tacos. Yes, I'm a loser. I do not like raw onions nor cilantro which makes a traditional taco boring since I would order without. It was yummy. Nice flavors, well cooked and not overly salted. My daughter ordered a chicken gordita and chicken quesadilla. She really liked it. I'm so used to terrible food in C-U. It was so nice to enjoy my meal!! I may have to go to Champaign on non-Sundays just to eat at Maize. Homemade chips are included with each order. Also very good! Salsas are very good. I highly recommend the hot. It has a nice kick, but not over-powering. Service was top notch. Everyone was very nice!
